Your fine suit Dominic ... I'm still trying to process it. Purchased with an ounce of gold?

Very educational Dominic which means it probably won't last long in their archives. I've shared it with family and friends. Keep up the good work 🪙

You did write in response to my initial query on your incorrect use of a word that you welcomed any comment on such a topic in part because your father had emphasised to you the need for correct English language usage (I paraphrase). On this understanding, you wrote in your book The Secret History of Gold the following (page 157):

“The Japanese even attacked the United States, when, on 7 December 1941, they decimated the US Pacific fleet with their surprise strike on Pearl Harbour.”

My understanding is that the US fleet at Pearl Harbour was destroyed not ‘decimated’, which means cut by a tenth. You could quibble and say the word has evolved to mean general slaughter and destruction but in the same book you reference Roman history and culture, their gold mines in Spain and their gods, so you should (perhaps a pedant’s view) use the word ‘decimate’ in its true sense, which, from memory, described the Roman way of dealing with a legion which had somehow disappointed or shown a lack of enthusiasm in battle by killing every tenth man.

As before, I stand to be corrected.

HI Christopher,

You are absolutely right and I stand humbly corrected. My father BTW despaired at the misuse of the world decimated.. Thank you. With my tail between my legs, Dominic

I can’t lie I love your stuff but the fact you’ve had Liz truss at one of your events makes me very sad. As a Brit, that woman damaged our country before running off to yours to tell you about how shit it is in the UK. A cabbage lasted longer than she did!! Don’t fall for her hoodwinks. (She’s disarmingly charmless)

Have you met her in person? For me, the value was in meeting her face to face rather than through the media lens as you often see a very different side in person. I believe in open dialogue, even when views differ. And remember taking offence to anything is the Bait of Satan.

I have lived under her government. I have witnessed her lie to our faces. I have friends who worked in Westminster with her and I am told she is disarmingly charming. She doesn’t offend me, but her two-faced nature pleases satan more. Liz Truss was known as Dis Trusst for a reason
