Well done Dom, good to see you all looking well on fam pick. You hinted at wokemindvirus issues invading some of them, but if you're all in the same frame in LA, must be ok.

I keep a hawk-like eye out for intrusions on mine but the eldest are the most based of their peer groups it seems and enjoying life despite, rather than because of, background societal issues. So whilst I never had that issue, I know it's not far away as do have to bat a fair bit away.

We haven't got as many bitcoins as you, so unlikely we'll afford a family vacation and pic anywhere other than Alicante (which apart from Benidorm is an amazing place only 2 hours flight and Europe's warmest micro-climate).

p.s. haven't been on SubStack since Elon took over Twitter.

Thanks Dominic, I agree that both LA and SFO are tinderboxes, meanwhile rural CA (and USA) is peaceful and lovely.

The UK has cheaper groceries than most other countries. We were just in Arizona and also gobsmacked by how few groceries you’d get for $150. That said, groceries in my wife’s homeland (Germany) are also noticeably more than here. Maybe you don’t need a strong domestic agricultural sector after all …!

Homelessness is a big problem everywhere now, but Southern California is kind of a perfect storm due to lax/permissive government policies toward the homeless and favorable weather. As you say something will have to give, just a question of how long things can teeter on the edge.

Not quite right on gas. A US gallon is only 3.8l as opposed to around 4.5l for an imperial gallon. That makes it around $1.26, still cheap ish though at pretty much £1 / litre, but not the bargain it was 20 years ago.

San Diego used to be a relative paradise but has unfortunately become completely captured by the South Africanization.

Even the local bicycling advocacy group has gone off the rails
