I think I need to take up smoking illicit substances again before I watch all of that. The bullet past the ear bit certainly grabs your interest but then you start to engage some critical thinking…

If you are in Buenos Aires, try a glass of wine from the Bressia bodega (situated outside Mendoza). Their Monteagrelo is very drinkable; their Profundo is better, but you pay for it. http://www.bressiabodega.com

I look forward to your thoughts on Milei and Argentina.

Lordosis

An abnormal forward curvature of the spine in the lumbar region.

The mating posture displayed by female rodents and certain other mammals, in which the back is arched downward and the hindquarters are raised.

A curvature of the spine forwards, usually in the lumbar region.

Any abnormal curvature of the bones.

An excessive curvature of the spine, causing a hollow in the back.

An abnormal inward (forward) curvature of the vertebral column.

Everything’s a metaphor, an analogy, a simile, a symbol. All words are plays on words. And those lenses, net-net, often distort as much as, if not more than, they clarify.

Having nothing to do with pill colors symbology, from my perspective, this human realm is much more about, better more accurately described, by flies & rings lords, than by the abrahamic patent & trademark & copyright holders ones. Golding. & Tolkien.

Good job, Dom (Saw the first 21:20 of your “Shaping the Earth” presentation). Couldn’t respond post in line, there, so here it is, hope that’s alright.

For me “mining - good or bad?” misses the deposit. And its for the same reason as David Milch’s still all too often accurate characterization here @ ~3:45:

(Just got a copy of Milch’s biography. Because the guy is one heluva writer. & like not a few of those, his Life’s Work is a gauntlet spattered with verbal/written acuity. And because he gives luck its due, instead of some fundamental attribution error.)

The tragedy of the commons might could just be boiled down to the lack of any real competition due to MIA property rights, of persons, in their persons, or in their satellites.

So, rip out/off the “profitable” stuff & “socialize” as much of the associated ecological (people included) degradation “expense” as possible.

Early, earlier, days vs today apples/oranges? Yeah.

But the bad apple mentality from earlier days is still fully operational.

And/but instead of emphasis on insistence that property/rights be respected ~or else~ the counterproductive response to counterproductive commons by “greens” etc is just to lock it up (instead of accounting accurately, pricing accurately, respecting prerogatives) as a way (for affiliated rapists) to “prevent” the (other) rapists from having their despoiling way.

So / but that’s what apple days of yore & walks like a duck l’orange have, still, in quacks common.

Coal. And people. This lady from Appalachia mentions it, & in some further context:

Rust Cohle. A great character - True Detective, season 1. This bit in particular to the tragic commonalities: “People... so goddamn frail they'd rather put a coin in the wishing well than buy dinner.”

Judeo-Hollywood coal miner’s son never had a conversation with the Appalachian lady above & even had he done he might still would rather go work for nazi-no-longer Werner von Braun at the nasa Paperclip Operation, cuz war, health of states, needs coal **&** rockets, but latter’s got a cleaner & hotter burning respect trajectory & better paychecks, too:

Which brings it round to an Ecuadorian doctor who conveyed to me no little contempt for gold money since infinite tons of it flies around in outer space rocks that are just waiting for von Braun’s rocket-miners to arrive to rape it out without the usual commons consequences. On whatever genetic memory-bitterness of what the conquistadores did to the indigenes they encountered in their quest for monetary metals, he said nothing.

The oldest profession then, I’d say-sum up, is pimps, who require prostitutes, & so invent them, so to speak.
