Love your books and love your songs and love your vlogs, keep up the good work. However it’s always good to have a plan b in life, because plan a doesn’t always work out. To be a single minded champion like Andy Murray or David Hays and have a win at all costs attitude could come with costs to mental health and family. It takes a special kind of person to never back down and win. Paul Newman’s character in Cool Hand Luke is a case in point as he just kept getting up after being knocked down. The soviet military hierarchy liked your conquistador example and told their men as they went over the top to keep going, because if they didn’t and retreated (plan b) they would be shot by their own commanders! I’m rambling a bit now but my main point is “god loves a trier” and we shouldn’t forget that. Enjoy your weekend and keep up the great work.

Thanks so much Greg.

I think we did something similar in WW1 - and look how that ended

Yes, we still haven’t paid off the debt for that one!? Can I recommend a book to you? It’s called the Unnecessary War and it’s by Pat Buchanan. It’s not cheap at at £60 a pop from Amazon! However it delivers an argument that we should never have got involved in a fight with Germany as it effectively bankrupted us and the empire never recovered. Our involvement has always been seen as a necessary moral crusade, but Mr Buchanan makes a coherent argument that Churchill was just a political opportunist who had only his legacy driving his motives. After all when Germany invaded Poland it only took half the territory and Russia by agreement took the rest. We never went to war with Stalin?! I think with what is happening in Ukraine, the book now has some degree of relevance in these crazy times.
