Love this chat with Paul. Fascinating discussion about supranational organisations - WEF, WTO, WHO how they were the root of all evil in the eyes of the left. How that has switched to scepticism and criticism but now that comes from those on the political right. Like Paul, I believe the future is small and local. Ideally the UK could break into independent counties, with freedom to set local taxes, all competing, all trying to demonstrate a successful model. I've never understood why terraforming on this planet isn't a thing either. Why people talk of doing so on Mars or the moon but nobody attempts that, just off the coast of Cornwall? If Cowperthwaite turned a swamp into the success that is HK then surely a collection of new small islands in the Atlantic could prove the model nicely. Either that or choose failed countries with tiny populations - Albania for example. Is nobody interested to turn Albania round?
For the record, I’d have been delighted for you both to keep talking longer.
My question for all utopias: what would the motivation be to strive? I.e. how is the individual incentivised?
Change is the only constant... sharing land out is all very jolly, but what happens in future generations?
In a world where I’m not happily homemaking with three little girls & workaholic husband, I’d love to go on a writing course with PK in the West of Ireland (sigh).

Thanks David
Sensible people having a chat... it'll never catch on ....
Thanks Chris
Great chat. Love Paul Kingsnorth. The Just Stop Oil numpties could learn a lot from Paul. And to be fair, probably just by watching CBeebies.
