I agree. We need the protection of anonymity when revealing truths that would attract malicious reprisals. It’s a shame, though, that anonymity is used so often as the means of first resort by nasty trolls peddling toxic BS that they just wouldn’t dare to say publicly .

That’s why I stopped reading and contributing to the reader comments sections in online newspapers: too much spit-flecked vitriol by anonymous nobheads.

It could store up future problems though. For example, You may well believe you have nothing to hide and that may be true.

But unfortunately there are bad faith actors out there who may decide that something you have said or done is a problem. Their bad faith interpretation may be enough to turn your reputation from decent to garbage... or worse
