Well said Dominic. I discovered Substack this year and it’s wonderful. The writers articulate my thoughts in a way I never could (I’m just not that good with words) and I am then able to share them with my friends, family and colleagues and so it grows.
I don’t have a social media presence as I found it to be full of idiots and even people who I know who seemed to be level headed suddenly turned into morons once they had a phone in their hand. Substack on the other hand is enlightening and refreshing and as you say, free content tends to be devalued content (not you LSO...).
Keep up the good work and have a productive and happy 2024.
I agree. Even the legacy newspapers are looking tired these days. Parents who protested on the street in Ireland as yet another person is murdered by a deranged religious extremist (Muslim islamist) are described as 'far right'. The legacy media as well as our legacy political parties need to be anhilated. I'm not sure we can change it fast enough, I'm feeling terribly low about it all.
100% agree with this Dominic. Worth noting that Substack’s continued commitment to free speech and diversity of thought are very much the cornerstone of its success in attracting so many disparate and fascinating voices. Substack is a resource we need to support and defend. Happy New Year and wishing you continued success in 2024!
I agree. The free speech free thought thing is a huge building block. As a result ideas are advancing so fast. It's leaving every other media in its wake.
Happy New Year Dominic. Concise Substacks that get to the point (eg 500 words max) blossom but the 1000 word+ stacks wither. Will you be running an idiots guide to safe crypto investing?
Your point is noted. The problem is you really get into it and suddenly it's 1,500 words, but you know you would have got three times as many views if it was 500!

Thanks so much Matthew. I am the same. Often somebody else says it better than I could so you just forward the article with a "what he said"

It's nuts. They are too inhibited to say what they think. And they are dying.
Elizabeth. You are spot on, and it does really get me down sometimes, however, the more I grow into Substack, the better I feel.
