Well apparently, unless you live in the Tropics, it is impossible to get sufficient Vitamin D from sunshine alone (I'm not sure if eating a lot of cheese can compensate)....but psychologically, sunshine beats pills hands down!
I am confused about this advice, because the sun also does a lot of damage. I have spent very little time in the sun and so my skin is very young looking in my 40s, whereas I see very wrinkled people of all ages who were/are sun and beach lovers.
There's also the skin cancer risk.
In addition, I've noticed how South Facing houses, although used as a selling point by estate agents, often have very sun -damaged furniture, curtains, fittings etc.

I guess moderation is everything.
