Hi Dominic I love reading your newsletters. Loved the story about Albania and its beaches. I’m just reading For A New Liberty by the great libertarian Murray Rothbard now sadly deceased. Privatise everything I say and reduce government to zero. I am a fellow writer but not as successful as you as it is a part-time occupation of mine. Would love to meet up with you in London one day for lunch maybe and share some interesting ideas? It’ll be on me. Tony

An interesting story. I spent over 6 years working in Albania. Totally corrupt, which made my life difficult, but such fun. I agree the beaches were/are something different, but almost deserted when I was there.

Nice. I personally like Cornish or Bretagne beaches, with rocky headlands. At the moment I’m at the Capricorn Coast in Oz, long wide beaches, amazing ocean colour and zero surf on account of the Great Barrier Reef. Scantly patronised, for some reason people prefer the man made lagoon.

Good report Dominic, thanks! I remember a holiday to Corfu in the early 90s, we took a boat trip and moored in a bay on the eastern side of the island, where there was swimming, and the organisers barbecued lunch on the beach. Only a mile across the water, Albania was clearly visible, and the tour guides told stories of how not a light was to be seen at night, and of fisherman unwillingly swept by winds onto the Albanian shore, never to be seen again.. 30 years later, how things have changed...

I remember the same. A family in our resort strayed in Albanian waters on a boat trip and were held up by Albanian soldiers at gun point. Traumatized them.

Albania! I would never have guessed! Excellent article, Dominic...you really covered most of the real-world aspects of private enterprise beaches ... bright and sunny libertarian theory in action! ☀️
